Two instructor certification programs
First Aid / CPR / AED Instructor
Train to teach American Red Cross First Aid, CPR, and AED courses for workplaces, schools, and community responders. Teaches both instructor-led and blended formats.
Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor
Instructor training for healthcare professionals who want to teach BLS courses for clinical and professional settings. Requires current BLS certification as a prerequisite.
What instructor training involves
Both programs follow the same blended format. Here's what to expect from start to finish.
Confirm your prerequisites
Hold a current Red Cross certification in the discipline you want to teach (First Aid/CPR/AED or BLS). Be at least 16 years of age. Be able to demonstrate required skills to standard.
Complete the online module
After registering, you'll receive access to the online instructor candidate module. Complete all required video content and knowledge checks before your in-person session date.
Attend the in-person skills session
Practice teaching skills, receive instructor feedback, complete skills evaluation, and demonstrate course delivery competency to your instructor trainer.
Receive your instructor certification
Upon successful completion, you'll receive your Red Cross instructor certification, valid for two years. You'll then be authorized to teach eligible courses through First Aid Minnesota as your affiliated training provider.
